If you've created a partition the size of your whole disc that's formatted in some way (rather than blank) that could be causing your problem. It's probably an issue with your partitions not being set up correctly. How is your hard drive formatted and what partitions do you have set up? But, in those situations I had knowledge ahead of time that that was what I was doing, and anytime i did Linux first I never cared enough to figure out wtf was going on! Good job!!
