Hi Clara!

Ubuntu works fine, except for some minor things I haven't asked about because I could probably figure out myself if I took the time...one weird thing is that when I'm typing an email sometimes the cursor suddenly decides to move somewhere else and I have to go & delete, reposition the cursor, etc.

Otherwise, Ubuntu is cool. I like the African drumbeat when logging in. Late at night it mingles in my brain with the Obama campaign, then I imagine there is a vast Obama conspiracy...today I found an Obama office in Shepherdstown & stopped in for a yard sign, and the next thing I knew they were signing me up to canvas on Saturday and drive people to vote on Tuesday, so my conspiracy theory must be correct!!
Love, Mom

The girlfriendless nerd stereotype arises at least in part because people without girlfriends can become obsessively involved with projects like their computers.
That is very true.

With ubuntu, I have the option of not making my computer into a time-consuming project.
Yes! I like Ubuntu for that reason too... though I also like having the option of making my computer into a time-consuming project when I feel like it :).

as Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie said in their comedy song "Every OS Sucks," linux sucks because "I've got a girlfriend and things to get done."

That's the "girlfriend" test I use for my choice in distro.
