GeoHashing
5:41 pm May 21st, 2008Today’s xkcd outlines an algorithm for generating a new random set of coordinates every week; it generates only the decimal part of the coordinates, so there’s a separate location in each “graticule” (block of space with the same integer coordinates — 80-some miles on each side, it looks like) for local meetups.
This is pretty neat! It seems scavhuntesque, in a way — I always enjoyed going on road trips whose destination I didn’t know until I left. Now I can do that every weekend if I want!
